Cutting the Power Cord
GaN is rising to the challenge of increasing global demand for wireless charging solutions for high power systems. As you might have seen, GaN Systems and NuCurrent recently announced a joint partnership highlighting the launch of NuCurrent’s 150-watt wireless power solution, which is designed for industrial and consumer applications, using our high power, high efficiency power amplifier.
As wireless charging becomes mainstream GaN transistors are enabling higher power level applications from 30W up to several kilowatts – much greater than achieved with traditional silicon solutions.
Using GaN provides fifty times and more higher wireless transfer power. GaN-based wireless power solutions open the door for opportunities for charging more than a single cell phone, but several of these devices at the same time as well as laptops, drones, robots, tabletop electronics, industrial power tools, eBikes, and more.
“We chose GaN Systems’ power amplifier because it’s a high performance and easy to use solution,” said Tim Tumilty, NuCurrent VP of Sales and Marketing, “We’re able to reach power densities and operate at higher efficiency at high power output not possible with other power transistors.”
Paul Wiener, GaN Systems’ Vice President, Strategic Marketing added, “Partnering with NuCurrent is fostering technological innovation in the wireless charging market. GaN Systems is enabling compact, low-cost, high-power wireless charging as the market demand for a world without power cords rapidly grow.”
